DAUNTING AND SLIPPERY

In the heat of the moment He wondered how fast losing your mind could be He reminded himself of all the reasons To stay away from it But before he realized It was done   People talk of self control As though it’s a magic pill Swallow it and all your impulses are within your control But here he is, time and again, losing to his most deafening fears   Lots of people need help With so many stuff Including self control   Self control is not a piece of cake You cant just slice it And have your piece   Lets offer the help we can           Yussif Ahmed Ibn Yussif             ahmed.yussiph@gmail.com

ORDAINED?

When I climbed down from the tree You were there Waiting To offer the sweetest of pep talks I didn’t understand   So I looked back But when I turned to your position You had vanished I froze A voice from behind probed “Do you really like her?” I said, yes, I do The voice said “You barely know her” I asked, “does it matter” Then the voice disappeared   You are a girl of many things Built into a formidable force Picking the pieces into peace   Just the way you are.            Yussif Ahmed Ibn Yussif             ahmed.yussiph@gmail.com

OF CERTAINTY AND OTHERWISE

The river wasn’t flowing It wasn’t still either Staring between the prisms of confusion and clarity Nothing more puzzling   Most often, we think we know We think we understand But, significantly, we neither know nor understand   The pendulum of balance Isn’t always balanced Tipped to one side And the other side falls short   The sun shines so we can see But others wear glasses when the sun shines The pieces can be peace And peace can be pieces            Yussif Ahmed Ibn Yussif            ahmed.yussiph@gmail.com

UPSTAIRS – EPISODE 3

The bed continued to creak A sign of bravo, I suppose Or disgust   In the gentle moaning of her pleasure I’m pleased But in the silence I am pained   In the echoing of her ‘harder’ I thrust The silence that follows Is a reminder of ‘push’ And the image it forms on the mouth of nurses   The waist is raised The thrust of thrusts The inevitable is at hand TO BE CONTINUED...           Yussif Ahmed Ibn Yussif           ahmed.yussiph@gmail.com

DUSTS OF GOLD

It had only been several days But worth a thousand years suffering   Memories began to be shaky Falling off like rotten apples Suddenly, the impotence of potential Energy was potent   Love bonds And it breaks   Like dust She blinded me But now I see, clearly   Question; Can the truth Turn false                 Yussif Ahmed Ibn Yussif                 ahmed.yussiph@gmail.com

CHILLED KILLINGS

No statistics But even if it’s only one person who dies from accidents every year Don’t we still need to be extra careful on the road? Both drivers and pedestrians Instead of the requested bread A body is returned to the family Speeding, carelessness, drunk-driving Turns travels into carnage More rigorous enforcement of the laws is required Citizens must wield responsibility  On the road  And the police on the road need to be more rules oriented  Instead of money oriented Accidents continue to flood our roads  Yet drivers continue to speed without facing punishments Passengers continue to look on while they are put in jeopardy Bad road cause accidents Our misuse of good roads cause accidents As a people, what do we seek? On my way to Accra three days ago A speeding vehicle almost collided into the vehicle I’d boarded The speeding vehicle had overtaken another vehicle in a curve Our driver had to quickly apply breaks  And simultaneously steer off the road This could have ended badly for
